CMMG Banshee 300 Vs. Daniel Defense DDM4

Exploring the possible options when deciding to buy a powerful carbine rifle, enthusiasts tend to talk about CMMG Banshee and Daniel Defense DDM4.

To have a greater insight we are here with an in depth comparison between the leaders of the ammunition industry. Let’s begin!

Introduction to the Rifles

CMMG Banshee 300 is a highly regarded firearm series in the firearms industry. It runs like magic and has almost zero recoil. It is an above-average, mid-range series with a unique radial delayed blowback.

It is available in different calibers like the 9mm, 10mm, .45 ACP, 300 BLK, and my favorite 308 Win. Moreover, it has various models within the series like the MK57, MK47, MK18, MK10, and the MK4.

On the other hand, Daniel Defense DDM4 is a great rifle but it seems to be a buy once cry once rifle due to its cost. That being said, the DDM4 is quite a hard-core and heavy-duty rifle with great prospects.

Design and Usage Experience

CMMG Banshee 300

CMMG Banshee 300 series are beautiful weapons. As an example, the Banshee 300 MK47 is a 9 mm carbine with super cool uppers by CMMG. The barrel is so classy that you can’t get your eyes off from the amazing Banshee 300. Also, Banshee series has the shortest barrel that CMMG provides for each of the caliber.

The lower receiver is just fine but some might find the need to upgrade it. If one has some money to spare, they might prefer to combine CMMG upper with other better options for the lower to upgrade the guns.

If you add a hydraulic buffer, you can significantly cut down the recoil in Banshee 300, even more than what a radial delayed bolt can. It can shoot indoors without much potential damages and restrictions.

That being said, the extractor spring of Banshee has had some problems, which CMMG was kind enough to call back and solve by simply cleaning and re-assembling it.

Daniel Defense DDM4

The DDM4 is an AR15 style weapon with M-LOK attachment technology, a 16 to 22 inches barrel with a decent flash suppressor, medium sized gas system to provide reliable experience and reduced recoil.

It has quite a lot of room for accessories and optics which a user can employ and this has been highly appreciated for those who are used to customizing their firearms.

Daniel Defense M4 V7

Their latest version, the DDM4 V7, from Daniel Defense is a dependable and accurate AR-15 that comes with enough additional features to keep 5.56 enthusiasts interested.

Although the ergonomics of the pistol grip are not quite up to par, this rifle more than makes up for it with QD mounts, a threaded barrel, and an enhanced muzzle brake.

Performance and Accuracy

CMMG Banshee 300

Banshee 300 can push a higher grain bullet (27 grain in case of MK57) over 2200 feet per second to a range of 200 yards. The cerakote of CMMG scratches easily and that is why many customers liked to switch to the upgraded hardware for the CMMG banshee 300.

As a reference point, the results for the accuracy testing of an MK57 are given for you. Among a batch of 5, the shots were off by only around 1 inch from a distance of 75 yards. This indicates that it is a highly accurate rifle.

Daniel Defense DDM4

The accuracy and performance of all Daniel Defense rifles is considered to be high class. It managed to keep the accuracy under 1 MOA, when used with a higher grain bullet like the 69-Grain Federal Gold Medal.

A point to note is that since the DDM4 has a 1:7 twist rate, it prefers something heavy for ammunition. A 55-Grain bullet will lower the accuracy than the above-mentioned figures.

Special Features

CMMG Banshee 300

Their patented radial delayed blowback system opens the opportunity for larger caliber PCCs in the AR world. It helps to streamline the operation without heavy bolts or springs. Further, it allows the pressure to fall in the chamber before unlocking, thus increasing the accuracy and velocity.

The bolt catch linkage system offers consistent and reliable functioning and is waiting to be patented. P3 or personal position preset offers precision of multiple customizable lengths to make sure the stock extends to the personal position every time it is deployed.

RIPBRACE enables quick setting back to your personal position and fastback technology removes the need of locking tabs to bind. The powerbolt technology used in Banshee makes it durable and larger bolt faced AR10 for higher and wider pressured cases.

Their compact action BCG removes the need for buffer tube setup using dual guide rods and springs. Its barrel lengths vary from 5 to 8 inches and the kit allows you to build a pistol-caliber carbine in a very manageable package.

The standard features of Banshee includes aluminum receivers of aircraft-grade, cerakote standard finish, M-Lok handguard, and lifetime quality guarantee by CMMG.

Most of them have a barrel twist of 1:10, the trigger type is mil-spec single stage and the magazine is CMMG 9arc 30rd.

Daniel Defense DDM4

The Grip-and-Rip charging handle of DDM4 is independent which supports both left and right handed persons. It is equipped with special Daniel Defense Pistol Grip and Buttstock technology.

Its buttstock and pistol grip features specialized glass-filled polymer which has a soft touch overmolding.

The latest one, the V7, has a DD improved Flash Suppressor to reduce flash. It also features M-LOK attachment points that run along 7 positions and an uninterrupted 1913 Picatinny rail on top.

Price and Accessories Offered

The CMMG Banshee 300 MK47 comes for around $1500 and is only available at Guns.com. You can click here to check the updated price and buy it.

The CMMG is not exactly an affordable rifle, by any means. It is a bit overpriced in my opinion, especially since the DDM4 is not that much more expensive and is a better and more durable rifle, without a doubt.

The DDM4 costs a bit below $2000 on Brownell’s. Here are the links for your convenience:

The DDM4 is also available on Guns.com but it was priced higher than Brownell’s, the last time I checked. However, Guns.com frequently offers rebates on select guns, so I recommend you click here to check any active offers.

I also share similar rebates and discounts with my audience via email. If you’re interested in receiving these exciting offers directly to your email inbox, I highly suggest subscribing to my email newsletter by clicking here.

Conclusion

CMMG is a highly recommendable option for home defense purposes and is overall regarded as a well-reputed brand but I would not recommend getting it if you intend to use it on the range or for any practice sessions.

If you ask me, I would always go for the Daniel Defense M4 V7.  DDM4 is a durable, quality, lightweight, and well-balanced weapon which does cost more than the Banshee 300.

The customer service of CMMG might be a bit more responsive but the unsurmountable build quality of the DDM4 means you will not have to worry about contacting Daniel Defense’s customer service.
