Sig Sauer Cross Vs. Q Fix- Which One’s Better?

Bolt action rifles admirably bridge the gap between science and innovation to create weapons with greater versatility. They are far more accurate than semi automatic weapons and the flexibility and reliability they offer, because of fewer moving parts, has made them the go-to weapons for hunters and long range shooters.

The Fix by Q and the Sig Sauer Cross are two bolt action rifles vying for the top spot of the bolt action rifle list. Here we look at them to see how worthy they are for the title.

So, let’s get right to it!

The Fix by Q is a one piece aluminum, lightweight rifle with an adjustable stock and combs. Its barrel is made of stainless steel and is easily changeable. It has a full length, 1913 rail for optics and accessories and is available with gray accents for the 308 Win or blue accents for the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Sig Sauer Cross

The Sig Sauer Cross  offers an adjustable stock with AR style aluminum controls and a stainless steel barrel, skeletonized folding aluminum stock with adjustable combs, a rail with plenty of space for mounting optics and accessories.

Feel in Hand

The AR style of the Sig Sauer Cross feels very well balanced and sturdy in the hand. The recoil for this weapon is not very snappy and is easy to handle for longer periods. The buttstock is easily adjustable and feels very solid.

The comb (cheek rest) features a lever and springs to help with the tension and raises its height to lift with your head for better cushioning. It also has a great ambidextrous safety which is similar to an AR safety.

The Fix by Q has a standalone design of their own. It is lightweight and has better quality than the Sig Cross. The butt handle is a bit small and the stock plate is considerably small as well. The cheek piece is nice, however.

That being said the recoil for the Fix is more snappy and is a bit unpleasant to fire with the 16” barrel configuration. The 20” barrel is much more pleasant to fire but it’s not a handy gun to carry if you want a portable gun to take when hiking or doing something similar.

Shooting Experience

The Fix by Q is a very accurate shooter. We tried it at 100 yards with Hornady Tap 168 and it shot very well, the grouping was very tight as well. However, the overall experience can be a bit of a let down due to the muzzle flash of the muzzle brake (which is visible through the scope), the significant recoil and the loud noise.

Sig Sauer Cross has a one piece receiver which is highly accurate and when compared to the Fix by Q, is a much better shooter overall. At 100 yards with the Hornady Precision Hunter 143 the grouping was very close and the shots were very precise.

Even at 600 yards, despite it being so compact, the shots were accurate. The overall feel of the rifle and comfort was much better and the muzzle flash and noise was much less.

Magazine and Reload

Both guns accommodate an AICS style magazine and both guns can house multi caliber ammunition. Both guns have an easy one button release for the magazine.

The Fix by Q has a SR-25 style magazine as well which can house 10 rounds of the 308 Win or the 6.5 Creedmoor.

The Sig Cross has a magazine capacity of 10 rounds and comes in three common calibres; 308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor and 277 Fury.

Accessories

Both rifles support a multitude of accessories, which are subjected to additional charges. The Sig Cross has plenty of barrel choices and you can easily change the scopes yourself. The Helix 6 precision barrel and the Sig Sauer Sierra 3 BDX scope are two accessories that are particularly good.

The Fix also has plenty of accessories to choose from. The stock, the rail, multiple types of barrels and suppressors. They also have a big butt pad which you will need since the original is too small but usually their inventory is out of stock.

Pricing and Value

While the other differences in the list are minor, the prices of the two products have a pretty big gap. The Sig Sauer Cross is available for around $2000 both on Guns.com and Brownell’s, my recommended online guns retailers.

I would not recommend going for the 16 barrel because of the more felt recoil. Available in barrel lengths from 16 to 24 inches, the 20 inch barrel seems to be the sweet spot for me. Nonetheless, here are the links, for your convenience and to check the updated price:

The Fix by Q is priced between $3500 and $4000 on most sites. To check its latest price or to view all the new and used options on Guns.com, you can click here. Also, it is not available on Brownell’s.

From the discussion above, it is evident that the price difference is quite big. The question is “is it justified?” I do not think so. While the Fix by Q offers a lot of performance improvement, especially in the recoil department, the value proposition is still inferior to the Sig Sauer Cross.

Conclusion- Which One To Buy?

The Fix by Q is a very aesthetically beautiful rifle with advanced technology but it has its flaws and certainly some people might still prefer this rifle over others because of the brand recognition factor.

Still, if you look at the overall comparison, the Sig Sauer Cross comes out on top. There isn’t much gap between them to be sure but value for money, comfort and accuracy of the Cross are simply better than the Fix.
